Retaining and Flood Walls

Course Description:

This course provides guidance for the safe design and economical construction of retaining and flood walls. This course is intended primarily for retaining walls which will be subjected to hydraulic loadings such as flowing water, submergence, wave action, and spray, exposure to chemically contaminated atmosphere, and/or severe climatic conditions.

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

• Know the common types of retaining walls and flood walls
• Understand the differences between retaining and flood walls
• Understand seepage analysis methods
• Learn the special considerations that must be made when passive resistance is used
