Oil spill cleanup workers can face potential hazards from oil byproducts, dispersants, detergents and degreasers. Drowning, heat illness and falls also pose health and safety hazards. The components of this course provide a health and safety resource for those who may potentially participate in an oil spill response and cleanup. During an oil spill cleanup, workers may encounter many types of crude oil, including fresh and weathered, which contain carcinogenic volatile aromatic compounds like benzene, toluene and naphthalene. |
