Mechanical Properties of Materials
Credit: 1 hour
The American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM) specify test procedures for determining the various of a material. These descriptions are guidelines used by experimentalist to obtain reproducible results for material properties. Strength, hardness, toughness, elasticity, plasticity, brittleness, and ductility and malleability are mechanical properties used as measures of how metals behave under a load.
The subject of mechanical behavior has been in the front line of basic studies in engineering curricula for many years.
