This course examines the technical foundations of construction site safety engineering and risk mitigation, beginning with a detailed evaluation of how hazards arise within dynamic construction environments. Participants explore the most significant construction hazards—including falls from elevation, struck-by incidents, electrocution, and caught-in hazards—and learn how engineering analysis is used to identify and evaluate these risks during each phase of construction.

After completing this course, participants should be able to:
- Analyze the dynamic hazard environment of construction sites and identify the primary mechanisms that lead to falls, struck-by incidents, electrocution, and caught-in hazards during different phases of construction projects.
- Apply structured hazard identification techniques—including jobsite observation, soil evaluation, equipment interaction analysis, and task-based hazard assessments—to recognize construction risks before work activities begin.
- Evaluate construction hazards using formal risk assessment methodologies, including Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), risk matrices, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), to determine the likelihood and potential severity of hazardous events.
- Assess the engineering design requirements of protective safety systems used in construction environments, including fall protection systems, scaffold structures, crane lifting systems, and temporary structural supports.
- Interpret and apply key OSHA construction safety regulations under 29 CFR Part 1926, including requirements governing fall protection, scaffolding, excavations, electrical safety, and crane operations.
- Explain the role of safety management systems in construction safety engineering, including safety planning, hazard monitoring, incident investigation, and continuous improvement processes.
- Analyze real-world construction incidents to determine root causes and engineering failures, including scaffold collapses, trench failures, and equipment interaction hazards.
- Evaluate how emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and computer vision can enhance hazard detection and safety monitoring on complex construction projects.
